Alice Sudlow is a developmental editor and book coach for fiction writers who are already good and who want to become amazing. She specializes in helping writers craft the most powerful version of their story by making every scene unputdownable.
For more than a decade, Alice has supported writers of all stripes in revising their best work. In the Elon University Writing Center, she coached college students on writing projects from English 101 essays to senior theses. Then, as the Editor-in-Chief of The Write Practice, she built writing courses, wrote writing guides, and judged sixteen short story contests.
Now, as a Story Grid Certified Developmental Editor and an Author Accelerator Certified Book Coach, Alice supports fiction writers in late-stage revisions. Writers come to her when they have taken their manuscript as far as they can, they’ve crafted a good story, and they know they need expert feedback to reach their full potential.
With her sharp eye for scene structure and deep understanding of character arcs, capturing emotions, and interiority, Alice finds the hidden opportunities to take every page from good to great. She doesn’t rush the revision process; rather, she honors the time and space each writer needs to do their best work.
Alice serves writers through one-on-one coaching as well as her small group workshop, Scene Mastery, where she helps writers master the craft of editing excellent scenes. She also hosts the Your Next Draft podcast, the fiction writer’s guide to revising an unputdownable story.
